Ben was a childhood friend of Suellen's. He was the initial inspiration for these projects.
Ben played a pivotal role by introducing the artist to Susan, and starting the process...Planting the seeds.
An elder in training at Ipperwash, Susan and Suellen formed a fast bond, sharing values - love of family, love of nature and a quest for peace.
Their friendship nurtured the seeds planted by Ben. And they started to sprout.
Mary was Susan's mother, and a strong Ojibway woman and elder. Tiny in stature, but large in spirit, Mary guided the new growth, as it reached for the sun.
As the seeds flourished, the Chiefs of Kettle & Stony Point First Nations watched their growth, supporting it, encouraging it, sustaining it.
These projects grew from tiny seeds.
They flourished due to the trust the First Nations community gave to the Artist. It was a brave step to put their faith in an outsider.
They believed in Suellen's ability to depict their images, hear their stories, and share their feelings....
And that trust allowed them to help create something magical.
